Acceptable Use Policy

This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It covers everything on your site and everything you do with your account. If you are not sure something is allowed, please ask us first.

Not allowed

  • Anything illegal in Canada or Ontario, or helping or promoting something illegal.
  • Copying: photos, words, logos, fonts, music or videos you do not own or have permission to use. This includes photos copied from Google or other businesses. Do not use another business's name or brand.
  • Defamation: false things that harm a person's or a business's name, including fake or attacking reviews of other businesses.
  • Hate, bullying or threats: anything that pushes hate or harm against people for who they are. This includes race, religion, sex, gender, disability and age. No bullying, sharing private details, or threats.
  • Adult or sexual content or services. Anything that sexualizes children is reported to police.
  • Selling weapons, guns, ammunition or explosives, or explaining how to make them.
  • Selling drugs, cannabis, vapes, tobacco or alcohol, unless you have every licence the law requires and show it on your site. Never prescription drugs or illegal drugs.
  • Gambling, betting, lotteries or raffles, unless they are licensed (for example by the AGCO).
  • Scams: fake businesses, fake reviews or testimonials, false prices or claims, get-rich-quick schemes, pyramid schemes, MLM recruiting, or crypto and investment pitches.
  • Phishing and hacking: pages that pretend to be a bank, a government or another site, collect passwords, spread viruses, or try to get around our security.
  • Spam: sending or advertising emails or texts without consent, against Canada's anti-spam law (CASL).
  • Pretending to be someone else, a business, a government, or Honest Local Web.

Licences for your trade

If your work needs a licence, registration or certificate, you must have it. Some examples are electricians, gas fitters, real estate agents, lawyers, health workers and security guards. Do not claim licences, insurance or memberships you do not have.

Private information

Do not use your site to collect private details. This means health facts, SIN numbers, ID, bank or card numbers, passwords, or facts about children. Your contact form is only for simple questions and quote requests.

Using the service fairly

Do not overload the service, use it to store files, or resell it.

What happens if a site breaks the rules

  • Automatic checks may stop a change from going online.
  • We may hide content, keep a site offline, or close an account at any time, without notice and without a refund.
  • Serious problems (illegal content, scams, phishing, viruses, child exploitation or hate) mean we close the account right away.
  • If we close an account for breaking this policy, the person cannot sign up again with the same email or card.
  • We work with police and courts. We may share your account details when the law says we must or may. We report suspected child exploitation as the law requires.
